Year 2

Welcome to Year 2

Here you will find all the information you need to know about the goings-on in Year 2. 

The adults in Year 2 are Mr Leivers and Mrs Richardson.

Mrs Foster will be teaching Year 2 every Thursday afternoon.

For general things e.g. lost jumper, wearing trainers because shoes too small etc, please contact the class teacher using the updated messaging function on Seesaw

Topic

In topic this term we will be learning about the lives of significant individuals in the past who have contributed to national and international achievements. We will also learn about events beyond living memory that are significant nationally and or globally.

The focus will be on the significant contribution to nursing by Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole and on the impact of the Great Fire of London.

If you have any books or information about these subjects, please feel free for your children to bring them to school to enhance our learning experience.

Writing

Our first piece of writing will be based on the classic fairy tale Goldilocks and the Three Bears.

Science

Uses of Everyday Materials

This unit takes children will teach the children how to identify and compare the suitability of a variety of everyday materials, including wood, metal, plastic, glass, brick, rock, paper and cardboard for particular uses. They will also learn how to find out how the shapes of solid objects made from some materials can be changed by squashing, bending, twisting and stretching.

The lessons are designed to challenge children to develop and recall the knowledge and skills they have covered in Year 1.

PE

Our PE days will be Mondays and Thursdays (with Mrs Foster)

On PE days, the children need to come to school in their school PE kit with their school uniform packed to change into if they get very wet during a PE lesson.

Please remember jogging bottoms when the weather turns colder.

Please bring school uniform in a named bag in case we need to change after PE due to bad weather.
