Topic

During this term we will be focused on a geography-based topic. Children will develop their understanding of the world by learning to name and locate the seven continents and five oceans. They will explore similarities and differences between places by studying our small local area in the United Kingdom, and comparing it with a contrasting country.

Children will learn to identify hot and cold regions of the world, focusing on the Equator and the North and South Poles. They build their geographical vocabulary by describing key physical features such as mountains, rivers, and forests, as well as human features like cities, farms, and ports.

Pupils will gain practical skills by using maps, atlases, and globes to locate countries, continents, and oceans.

Links with art and design allow children to express their learning creatively, using techniques such as drawing, painting, and sculpture with a variety of materials.

Writing

This term we will be creating posters, letters, information reports and stories based on the book

Science

Living Things and Their Habitats

In this science unit, the children will explore and compare the differences between things that are living, dead, and things that have never been alive. They will learn how to identify and name a variety of plants and animals in their habitats, including microhabitats. The children will learn to identify and name different sources of food so that they can describe how animals obtain their food from plants and other animals, using the idea of a simple food chain.

The lessons are designed to challenge children to develop and recall the knowledge and skills they have covered in all their previous learning.

Plants

Children will learn how to: observe and describe how seeds and bulbs grow into mature plants; and find out and describe how plants need water, light and suitable temperature to grow and stay healthy.

The lessons have been written in sequence and are designed to challenge children to recall the knowledge and skills they have covered in the previous lesson(s). This Year 2 unit on plants builds on the knowledge children have covered during their year 1 learning.

PE

Our PE days will be Mondays and Thursdays (with Mrs Foster)

On PE days, the children need to come to school in their school PE kit with their school uniform packed to change into if they get very wet during a PE lesson.

Please remember jogging bottoms when the weather turns colder.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please bring school uniform in a named bag in case we need to change after PE due to bad weather.
