Year 6
Welcome to Year 6
Here you will find all the information you need to know about the goings on in Year 6.
We hope you all had a wonderful break over the summer and are looking forward to an exciting year.
Our topic this term is called The Industrial Revolution and The Victorian Era where we will be spending time learning about the significant events and changes during that time along with finding out what life was like living during Queen Victoria's reign. Our learning will include:
- Identifying the key improvements made during the Victorian era.
- Comparing different lifestyles during this time including: housing, schooling and childhood.
- Understanding how changes during the Industrial Revolution changed the physical landscape.
Within our topic work, we will also be developing our art skills by exploring the work of the artist William Morris. Our DT work will be to create our own Christmas cross-stitch decorations.
Throughout our topic, we will be considering the following key questions and using our research and knowledge to answer them at the end of term:
- What similarities and differences were there between the British Empire and other empires?
- Why was Britain able to develop and expand their empire?
- Is an empire a positive or negative development?
- What significant changes occurred during the reign of Queen Victoria?
- Would you consider the Victorian era to be a significant one in British history? Explain your answer.
Additional details about our topic learning can be found here.
Our English units of work this term will be based around the following books:
- The Last Wild by Piers Torday
- Can We Save the Tiger by Martin Jenkins
