Year 1
Welcome to Year 1
Here you will find all the information you need to know about the goings on in Year 1.
Our topic this term is 'Kings and Queens' this is a history and geography unit of work where we will begin to develop an awareness of the past and name, locate and identify characteristics of the four countries and capital cities of the United Kingdom and its surrounding seas.
We will be learning how dates can be used to describe time and events in time and use resources to show our understanding and interpretation of the past. We will also be using atlases and maps to locate places.
This will be done through:
- Talking about similarities and differences
- Using parts of stories and other sources
- Reflecting on our own experiences
Throughout our learning, we will be considering key questions (listed below) and using our research and newly acquired knowledge to answer them.
1. Where are some castles located in the UK and what significant battles took place outside their walls?
2. Why were castles built and were they fit for purpose?
3. Who lived and worked in castles and why?
